Fall 2020 Orientation!

Updated: Aug 20, 2020

Welcome to all Term 1 DMACC Students!

Every new semester has that weird overwhelming and also exciting "what am I doing, I am so lost" feeling, but nothing compares to day one of nursing school.

Orientation is a little wild; you probably got through some long speakers, a ton of Lippincott book downloads, and asked a bunch of questions about clinical attire (wouldn't it be nice if you could just email a photo of your shoes and someone would tell you yes or no for sure).

During the panel, we had some awesome questions: do I have to be a CNA, what do I do if I have been an LPN, how do you study, and how do you manage your time?

The inconvenient answer is that there is no right answer to those questions.

BUT the nice thing about AUSNA is that it's a diverse group of students who probably have gone through your situation and have made it out: whether you're 18 and it's your first college class, 37 with four kids or 23 with a full time job. We have people who have been there or know someone who has.

AUSNA is an organization absolutely dedicated to helping you find your way through nursing school, networking, and providing opportunities for you to learn more about the profession you're entering.

We provide all of the contact information for our officers on this site because if you're stuck and you have a question, these are students who have been (and are currently) right there with you. Some of us have straight As, some of us have failed tests, and all of us have been nervous/excited/overwhelmed/angry all at the same time while going through this amazing process to get that RN.

I welcome you to look through some of the posts here, know you're welcome, and I hope to see you at the first meeting of the fall 2020 semester (August 31 at 1 pm via Teams) where we'll talk about how we're going to make it through nursing school during a pandemic.

Right now, we're sad to announce that we had to say good-bye to our secretary, Elena, due to her other commitments. BUT! We are looking for a new one and want to make sure that term one students have the first chance at becoming involved! If you're interested in becoming our secretary (attending meetings, taking notes), put together a brief paragraph introducing yourself and why you'd like to be an officer, email it to Hilary and Amanda (contacts found on this page), and we'll announce our new secretary at our first meeting on the 31st.

All our meetings are held at 1:00 on Mondays, once a month, and if you have questions or concerns about anything, email Hilary at hhamilton2@dmacc.edu, and she'll throw you an answer or get you to the right person who can help you out.

Thanks for visiting our site, and WELCOME TO NURSING SCHOOL! You got this!
