What is a peer tutor at DMACC?
A peer tutor is a student who has gone through the class that you are taking and done really well. They apply, go through an interview, and complete training through the DMACC Tutoring Center. Click here for Urban campus information and click here for Ankeny campus information.
Why would I want to talk to a peer tutor?
If you have questions about assignments, tests, study skills, clinical experiences or really anything that has to do with that class, you can schedule a tutoring session for one or multiple appointments.
What is available this semester?
The current semester - Spring 2020 - there are multiple nursing tutors available, which has not always been the case! In Ankeny, group tutoring is available to anyone on Mondays from 12-3 in either the student study room (building 24, room 211) or during open lab (see schedule from Jessica Passick) as long as there is not an AUSNA meeting, in which case there is a break for everyone to attend the meeting. Everyone is welcome and you can stop by for 2 minutes or 2 hours! At both Ankeny and Urban campuses, private tutoring is available as well (use the links above for more info).
What about mentoring?
AUSNA is in the process of putting together a mentoring program at DMACC! If you are interested in giving feedback about mentoring and helping get this program off the ground, make sure that you mention this to one of the officers at the next AUSNA meeting! You can also contact the officers, which are listed on the main page here. The only way that we can get these amazing programs and ideas off the ground is for you to make your voice heard and participate.
None of this sounds appealing to you?
Maybe you're the person who should be a mentor or become a tutor yourself! DMACC's nursing program currently has a graduation rate of 65%. In order to make sure your future floor is staffed 100%, we need to support one another through nursing school, which is what AUSNA is all about!
