Why would you even go to an AUSNA meeting? What happens there?
During our first meeting of the semester, we had a lot of "club business" to complete before getting into the subject of how to survive nursing school.
Drew discussed the service project (see Spring 2020 events) for the semester.
Kayla, the pinning chair, mentioned that we have room dates for all of the upcoming pinning ceremonies until 2023! If you're interested in having anything to do with your own pinning ceremony, you need to get involved in AUSNA. The Urban and Ankeny pinning chairs plan everything.
Amanda went over legislative day, which is happening on February 26th. It also looks like she is also looking for volunteers for Discover DMACC day, so if you're interested in helping out at that event, it's on April 21st at 0800 and you should contact her for more details (see our contacts list).
Melody Bethards visited our meeting to ask for help during the Career Technical Education Day that took place yesterday (February 6th) at the capitol. Students showed legislators how they worked with the newborn and pediatric manikins.
Once those items were completed, we were able to move onto the subject of the meeting. Unfortunately, sometimes we have technical issues, so there was a bit of an awkward transition. If you've never been to a meeting before, they are held on both Urban and Ankeny campuses sometimes and Blackboard is used for communication.
Hilary presented a list of tips/tricks from nursing students and nurses she pulled together by watching a ridiculous amount of YouTube videos.
If you're interested in being actively involved in nursing school outside of the classroom, there are plenty of resume-building activities that AUSNA plans. These are great networking opportunities as well.
All students are welcome to attend and ask questions/get advice! Hope to see you at the February

meeting!
